Finding a Local Needlepoint Store (LNS)
Updated October 25, 2026
A local needlepoint store, often called an LNS (local needlepoint shop), sells canvases, threads and supplies, and usually helps you choose threads, plan a project and get it finished. To find one, open the stores directory and choose your state or country. As of October 26, 2026, the directory lists about 312 stores.
Using the stores directory
The /stores page groups stores by US state and by country, with online-only stores listed separately. Each state or country page lists the stores there with their city, the number of designers they carry and the number of canvases listed.
Each store page shows:
- the store's city and state or country (never a street address);
- whether it has a physical location, sells online, or both;
- a link to its website;
- the designers it carries and how many canvases it lists;
- its newest arrivals.
| Measure (in our data) | Value |
|---|---|
| Stores listed | 312 |
| Stores with a physical location | 270 |
| Online-only stores | 42 |
| States with at least one store | 44 |
Figures are as of October 26, 2026. The directory includes stores whose canvases we read from public listings, so it is not a complete list of every store that exists. Always check a store's own website or call for hours before you visit.
How stores get into the directory
Stores appear here when their canvases are listed on their public websites in a form we can read. We read those listings on a regular schedule, and the store page shows what we found: designers, canvases, prices and, where we track it, stock. A store's page links to its own website, which is always the final word on what it sells. A store that sells only in person, or lists few canvases online, may be missing or may show fewer canvases than it stocks. Corrections are welcome through the contact page.
What a local needlepoint store usually offers
Stores differ, but many offer some or all of the following.
Canvases
Stores stock canvases from a range of designers and can often order a design they do not have in stock. Seeing a canvas in person shows the painting, the colors and the mesh more clearly than a photo.
Threads and fiber pulls
Most canvases are sold without thread. Store staff can pull a set of threads to match a canvas, choosing fiber, color and weight for its mesh. This is often called a fiber pull or thread pull.
Stitch guides
Many stores sell stitch guides for the canvases they carry, and some staff write their own. See stitch guides explained.
Classes and stitch-ins
Stores often run classes, from first lessons to specific stitches or a particular canvas with its guide. Many also host stitch-ins, where stitchers work on their own projects together.
Finishing
Many stores take stitched canvases for finishing into ornaments, pillows, belts and other pieces, either in-house or through a finisher. Finishing often has a waiting time, especially before the winter holidays, so ask early.
Trunk shows
A trunk show is a limited-time showing of one designer's canvases at a store. It lets customers see and order designs the store does not normally stock.
Shopping in person and online
| In person | Online |
|---|---|
| See the painting and mesh up close | A wider choice of stores and designers |
| Match threads by eye with help | Useful when a canvas is sold out nearby |
| Classes, stitch-ins and advice | Shipping cost and time to add |
| Drop off finishing directly | Photos may not show every detail |
Many stores do both. A store page in this directory links to the store's website, and each canvas page links directly to the product page at every store that lists it.
Finding a store that carries a particular canvas or designer
To find who carries a design, open the canvas page from /canvases. Its "Where to buy" table lists every store we track that has it, with location, price and stock where we track it.
To find stores that carry a designer, open the designer from /designers. Its page lists the stores carrying its canvases and how many of its canvases each one lists.
Before you visit
- Check the store's hours on its own website.
- If you are after a specific canvas, ask whether it is in stock; stock shown here can be a few days old.
- Bring the canvas if you want threads matched, or a photo if you want advice on a new project.
- Ask about class schedules and finishing times.

Frequently asked questions
What is an LNS?
LNS is short for local needlepoint shop, what stitchers call a local needlepoint store: one that sells needlepoint canvases, threads and supplies, usually with help choosing threads and often classes and finishing.
How do I find a needlepoint store near me?
Open the stores directory and choose your state or country to see the stores we list there, with their city and website. Call ahead before visiting, since hours vary.
Can I buy from a needlepoint store that is not near me?
Yes. Many stores sell online and ship, and some sell only online. Each store page says whether it has a physical location, sells online, or both.
Do needlepoint stores finish canvases?
Many stores take stitched canvases for finishing, either in-house or through a finisher they work with. Ask the store about options, timing and cost.
Why is a store I know not in the directory?
The directory lists stores whose canvases we can read from public listings. A store with no public online listings may be missing even though it is open.
