Needlepoint Design Space

Methodology

Updated October 25, 2026

The directory is built from the public product catalogs of independent needlepoint stores. We list the canvases of 312 stores and track the stock of 20 stores. The data is refreshed once a day; the current data is as of October 26, 2026.

Sources

We read the public product catalogs of 312 independent stores, the same pages any shopper can open. Each listing is matched to a canvas and its designer from the details the store publishes. A designer's own website is linked, and a designer's own store is shown as such; it never counts as one of the stores carrying the designer. Listings a store has removed, duplicate listings and stores that have asked not to be read are never shown.

When it updates

Definitions

Listed. A canvas is listed when one or more stores show it in their catalog now.

Tracked stock. A store's stock is tracked when we read its catalog regularly and have a stock reading for the listing from the last 72 hours. Otherwise the page says "Stock not tracked" and makes no stock claim.

Sell-out. A listing that was in stock and then sold out at a tracked store. A sell-out reversed within 72 hours (a restock of the same listing) is not counted, so a brief catalog flicker does not read as a sale. Where a store is known to remove canvases from its catalog when they sell, such a removal can count as a sell-out; bulk removals never do.

Restock. A listing back in stock after at least 72 hours sold out, at a tracked store.

Newly listed. A store adding a canvas to its catalog. A store's first reading never counts, so a newly added store does not inflate the figure.

New to the directory. A canvas added to the directory in the period. It is not a release date: when stores join, their whole catalog is new to the directory.

Price. The listed price, with cents. Price ranges and bands use US dollar prices; a price in another currency is shown on its row and is not converted. Unpriced listings are shown without a price.

Price bands. Percentiles over each canvas's lowest listed US dollar price.

Coarse movement. Sell-out, restock and new-listing figures are counts of stores and never name a store. A canvas shows movement only when 3 or more stores with tracked stock list it (a designer's own store not counted), and its counts are out of those stores. A count is exact only when 3 or more of those stores are on each side of it: fewer than 3 prints as "fewer than 3", and a count that leaves fewer than 3 of them out prints as "most or all", so a count never says which listed stores sold out. Elsewhere a count of 1 or 2 stores prints as "1–2". The count of price changes over 90 days follows the same rule. A canvas enters a ranked list only when 3 or more stores are involved, and a designer's movement line needs 3 or more stores.

Mesh and size. As the listing or the designer states them; "Not stated" otherwise. Size categories group canvases from ornaments to large pieces by their stated dimensions.

Stock history. Stock history starts July 8, 2026. Until 90 days of history exist, 90-day figures are labelled "since July 8, 2026".

Corrections and opt-outs

Designers and stores can ask for a correction, for images to be removed, or for every page that names them to be removed; see contact.
